Did you know.....
1) Computer games are so popular that the games industry is now worth more than the movie industry! 2) Computer code might look like a foreign language, but it is a language anybody can pick up quickly, with a little practice! 3) Many of the people who shaped our digital world started out by coding games for fun. Who knows, maybe the next great code will come from one of our very own Powers Ferry kids. The kiddos are still coding away. They are working their way through an Angry Bird-like program and are doing fantastic. Additionally, they are working on programming the Rovers.

5th and 4th grades have been working on the IGNITE unit. They are currently researching global issues. They will soon be narrowing down issues they want to create a solution for. There has already been a lot of discussion about potential topics. I think deciding might be a challenging task!
We are studying Amelia Earhart this fall. 1st grade Target student Christian wants to be a astronaut and fly like Amelia. However, he wants to visit space. Going to Mars and collecting water samples is his dream. He recently completed his first STEM project, a 3D puzzle of a space shuttle.

This unit is designed to investigate a local or global need. Then we imagine....think...and engineer. We are looking to create something that answers a local or global need. It's still early. We have yet to decide what our invention will be. However, we are currently researching things. We are also learning what empathy means. It is hard to truly understand something until we put ourselves into the shoes of others. On Day 1, we ate our lunch blindfolded. Although our experience was only for 30 minutes, we learn to appreciate what a blind person goes through on a daily basis. 2nd/3rd Grade - Coding, Coding, Coding! Computers simple run our world. Coding is a wonderful career opportunity and we are learning to do it. We are working with an Angry Bird-like software as well as programming robot. I am keeping a close eye on them. I think they might be trying to replace me! 1st grade - It's all about Amelia! Amelia Earhart that is. Our unit is on her life and contribution to the world. She was so much more than just a pilot. I have a student that wants to become an astronaut. For his STEM project, he is working on a 3D puzzle of the space shuttle. Can't wait to show you that. it is looking great! More to come..... I want to welcome all my Target and Talent Development students. I certainly hope your summer was fantastic. Now.....let's get our learning on!
